January 11-12, Cycropia will host a performance-skills workshop with guest aerialist Krin Haglund.
Saturday, January 11, 9:00 AM-12:30 PM
Sunday, January 12: 3:30-7:00 PM
Why limit your performance to the perfection of an aerialist? Communicate more with your audience! Bring the comedy and humanity of clown and character up into the air with you!
Circus artist, clown, actress, and director Krin Haglund (Big Top Academy – tv series, 7 Fingers, Cirque Eloize, Cirque du Soleil, The Radiant) deftly helps you integrate the basics of clowning and character in the air through exercises, games, and structured improvisations.
In this 7 hour workshop, we explore status, timing, props, and special considerations of different equipment. You will workshop, structure, and perform solo and group comic floor and aerial “mini-numbers.” Have an idea already? Great! Bring your notes, props, and inspiration. Krin will help you develop and structure your concept. The end of the workshop is reserved for an “Ice Breakers” showing of new ideas and work generated.
Note: This is not a technique class. In the air students are required to stay safely within their own technical skill limits. True danger is NOT funny! This class a safe place to mine who-you-are and what makes you unique, interesting, and funny. And, you will learn how to react in the moment to real-time events, feelings, and common aerial mishaps with aplomb.
Dance trapeze, hoop, silks, and sling will be available to students. You may also bring your own equipment.
When registering, note your primary aerial disciplines and if you will bring your own equipment.
Krin Haglund is an original cast member of Cirque Éloize “Rain,”directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, which performed to sold-out crowds around the world. Krin won acclaim as “Rain’s deft comedienne.” With “La Clique” (now La Soiree) her aerial tissue routine was praised as “dynamic, expressive and original…” With the 7 doigts de la main “La Vie,” and, “Loft” Krin performed trapeze, sang and admonished audiences around the world as the eccentric flight attendant. She has also performed with Cirque du Soleil, Riksteatret National Theater of Norway, and Amanda Palmer.
Inspired to celebrate personal storytelling through circus, Krin directs work infused with the comic uniqueness of each performer and is an artistic advisor to world-class circus acts.
