Cycropia Aerial Dance to Perform at the 33rd
Annual Orton Park Festival
Cycropia Aerial Dance will bring their mesmerizing style of
dance and movement to the 33rd annual Orton Park Festival for
the debut of their new show "Lift". Cycropia will be
doing two performances, one on August 24 and one on August 25,
2001. Both performances will begin in the park at 8:30 p.m. and
are free and open to the public. Seating is first come, first
served, so come early to stake out your spot!
Returning to this popular eastside neighborhood festival with
a full-length performance of all-new works, this year's offering
will feature latin-influenced dance and comedy, ethereal spiritual
epics, experimental dance improvisation, and much more. Always
striving to explore and experiment, Cycropia will be working with
a variety of new apparatus, including quadruple trapeze, hand-loops,
Spanish web, and harnesses. This, combined with original live
musical accompaniment is sure to leave audiences rapt and astounded!
One of only a handful of aerial dance troupes in the country,
Cycropia Aerial Dance was born in Madison in 1989 and has been
performing publicly since 1991. Utilizing the single point shoulder-height
trapeze rigging style typically used in aerial dance, Cycropia's
performances create the breathtaking illusion of human flight.
Volunteer run and collectivist in structure, the troupe not only
performs live, but conducts trapeze classes for children and adults,
as well as educational workshops.
Jennifer Ruef is the artistic director of this year's performances.
